The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, saving and changing lives by providing emergency food aid and working with communities to improve nutrition and create resilience.

In the Policy and Programme Department, we are now looking for applicants to join the PD Summer Internship Programme 2021. (PD).

Brief description of World Food Program (WFP)

Nigeria is a republic with a federal government and a federal constitution. It is Africa’s most populous country and the world’s fifth largest.

Over 500 ethnic groups make up Nigeria’s population. In northeast Nigeria, the crisis brought on by non-state armed organizations is still the main source of insecurity.

They’ve been steadily improving their operating capacities since 2010. The government in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states announced a state of emergency in May 2013.

According to the IOM/DTM Round 27 report, Nigeria has 2 million internally displaced people (IDPs), the majority of whom are in the states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

Nearly 3 million people in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States are in need of food aid, according to the Cadre Harmonisé (CH) for June 2019.

WFP operations are centered on crisis response in order to prevent worsening of food and nutrition security, reduce malnutrition, and reduce gender disparities. WFP activities are centered in the more vulnerable and food insecure rural communities of north-eastern Nigeria.
