1. Pray unceasingly
Truth is, we pray every day, but during lent, we have to put in much more effort to build a strong relationship with God. We are encouraged to pray especially for people we don’t like and for people who don’t like us.
- Set aside 30 minutes or more in a day for silent prayer or meditation. It will revitalize your body and your spirit. Lent is a time of reflection and promise. You reflect upon your old way of life and change for who you want to become in future.
- Read the Holy Bible every day. This is the book of the Lord that has every truth and all the answers to your questions. Reading the Bible will guide you on how Jesus Christ wants you to live a holy life.
2. Fasting and abstinence:
Fasting is the reduction of one’s intake of food, while abstinence refers to refraining from something that is good, and not inherently sinful, such as meat.
Bodily fasting is meaningless unless it is joined with a spiritual avoidance of sin. Let us fast an acceptable and very pleasing fast to the Lord. True fast is the estrangement from evil, temperance of tongue, abstinence from anger, separation from desires, slander, falsehood and perjury. Privation of these is true fasting, therefore fast to grow in spiritual strength.
The foundational call of Christians to charity is a frequent theme of the Gospels. Almsgiving is one of the three pillars of lent so Christians are encouraged to focus more intently on “almsgiving.” It means donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity. It is “a witness to fraternal charity” and “a work of justice pleasing to God.” You can refer to it as giving donations
4. Read inspirational books.
During this lent period, you can read a spiritual book, it can be about a Saint or written by religious leaders or any book that will help you grow your spiritual life.
5. Repentance and reconciliation with God
The bible sings the song of repentance in almost all books. during this lent, you have to repent and reconcile with God. This means you should renew your spirit in Christ and cast away your sinful ways. Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (Mt. 4:17). Our Lord warns us of the serious need for complete, life-changing repentance:
