Police is investigating the circumstances under which Robert Kagolo, a journalist with Uganda Broadcasting Corporation was shot in Wakiso district.

The shooting took place at Bugembejembe village in Wakiso on 29th April 2021 at around 8 pm according to police.

Kagolo who was a former president of Uganda Journalists Association at the time was shot at his brother’s home. He was coming from his brother’s burial in the village.

He was killed by Local Defense Unit (LDU) officers who were guarding his brother’s home.

According to Police Statement, Kagolo hurriedly entered his brother’s home after suspected people that were trailing him and knocked the gate with his motor vehicle while gaining entrance.

“It is from there that a dis agreement between him and two LDU personelle who were guarding the home started, unfortunately the disagreement led to a shooting of which the circumstances are being investigated , the victim was later rushed to ST Joseph Hospital Wakiso where he succumbed to the injuries sustained,” the police statement read.

Police identified the shooter as Mamuli Rashid. Rashid and his colleague are under police custody and investigations go on.

 Kagolo’s body is yet to be conveyed to city mortuary Mulago for Postmortem.
